Environment
With seven public parks in the Golden Triangle BID, you don’t have to travel too far to enjoy a bit of nature amidst the bustle of the business district. The BID partners with the National Park Service to make parks like Farragut Square clean, safe and fun—Farragut is where the BID holds many events throughout the year including the annual Summer Concert Series and Pilates in the Park, and the park is also home to free WiFi internet access to anyone with a smart phone or laptop. The BID has also entered into a partnership with the DC government to adopt the DC park at the intersection of 21st and M Streets NW. Under the agreement with the City, the Golden Triangle BID takes care of the park by doing everything from power washing, cleaning, installing trash cans and benches, to planting more than 900 flowers and other landscaping. In addition, the BID competed for and received a grant to construct a bioretention cell at the site of the concrete traffic island at the intersection of Rhode Island Avenue NW and M Street NW. The bioretention cell will reduce stormwater runoff, pollution, and give workers another place to enjoy spending time outdoors in the Golden Triangle.
Golden Triangle Ambassadors also work closely with city agencies and property managers to maintain a well-manicured streetscape by weeding tree grates, pruning, and planting trees to help make a more hospitable environment amidst the concrete of downtown.
