Alley Art
The Golden Triangle BID collaborated with Famous Luigi’s Italian Restaurant at 1132 19th Street NW to paint the wall in the alley adjacent to the restaurant with art. Designer Rachel Horlick’s funky design transformed the alley wall along a block of 19th Street that is full of outdoor dining and nightlife, making it a more vibrant and exciting area of the Golden Triangle. Famous Luigi’s and the Golden Triangle BID held a contest to name the work of art, with the winning title being "Ondo Urbana", which is Italian for "urban wave".
This installation of alley art is one of many of the Golden Triangle’s public art initiatives. In 2008, nine historic fire and police call boxes were transformed into works of art, and earlier this year a creative bike rack brought both art and function together with a fun design when it was installed next to the Dupont Circle Metro south entrance. With a project in the works to bring substantial public art to the entrance of Farragut North Metro station, the Golden Triangle BID will continue to enliven the neighborhood with art and design through partnerships with area businesses and the arts community.
