Metro Closes Dupont South entrance

Metro is closing the Dupont Circle south entrance (at 19th Street NW) to replace all three escalators leading into and out of the station. Upon completion of this work, customers can count on years of safe and reliable escalator service.
The Dupont Circle south entrance will close on Wednesday, February 1, 2012.
While the work is taking place, customers are advised to use:
•Dupont Circle Q Street entrance, located one block north of Dupont Circle
•Farragut North L Street entrance, located at the corner of L Street NW & Connecticut Avenue NW

Why do these escalators have to be replaced?
These escalators are among the least reliable in system. The new escalators will improve safety, maintainability and dependability.
Why close the entire entrance?
The entire entrance must be completely closed for safety reasons. We must use a crane to remove each escalator. Because of the limited work space, we cannot remove the escalators while maintaining safe public access.
When will the entrance close, and how long before it reopens?
The escalator replacement will begin in February 2012 and take about 8 ½ months.
What is Metro doing to minimize inconvenience for customers during the construction?
•The north entrance of the station will remain open and elevators adjacent to north entrance will remain available. Or consider using Farragut North’s L Street entrance. It may be closer to where you’re going•Escalator mechanics will be on call to quickly address any mechanical issues at the station’s north entrance
•Metro staff will be on-site at the station for customer assistance
