Chef Lanfranconi:
Spezie

Chef Lanfranconi of Spezie at 1736 L Street NW brings a "contemporary rustic" approach to this fine Italian restaurant in the heart of the Golden Triangle. "If you're looking for a modern take on the staples of Italian cuisine, that's what we offer here," Lanfranconi says. Hailing from northern Italy, Lanfranconi has been serving up handmade gnocchi, tasty grilled fish, red-wine braised beef short ribs, and many more delicious dishes at Spezie since 2006. When you dine at Spezie, you can taste the passion and attention to detail the chef and his staff put into each dish.

Spezie's bar menu is a secret steal--Lanfrnconi has put together 20 "piattinis", or small plates, that are affordable mini-entrees that can be paired with recommended wines. On days with nice weather, the front windows are open in the bar area, making for an open patio feel.

Chef Lanfranconi often holds demonstration cooking classes to share his expertise in cooking regional Italian specialties, and Spezie frequently hosts wine pairing dinners and other special events.
