Pay by Phone Parking Now Available

There’s a new way to pay for parking in the Golden Triangle, and all you need is a mobile phone. The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) launched a "Pay by Phone" pilot program that will eliminate the need to carry change for the meters or run back to your car to add more time. This cashless payment option will be offered at select parking spaces in the Dupont Circle, K Street, and I Street areas--look for signage on the meters.

Motorists can sign up at paybyphone.com or by calling 1-888-510-PARK (7275). Drivers will need to provide their mobile phone number, license plate and credit card number. Once you are signed up with a free pay by phone account, just follow these simple steps to make a payment:

1. Call the toll free number from your mobile phone
2. Enter the location number that is posted on the meter or nearby signs
3. Enter the parking time desired.

When paying by phone, you can also select the option to receive a text message reminder minutes before your time expires and can also call back to add additional parking time remotely from any phone, provided you won’t exceed the parking time limit. That feature greatly reduces the chance of a parking violation. Learn more »

Lecture: Adventures Among Ants

Called "the Indiana Jones of entomology," photographer and naturalist Mark Moffett has made it his mission to open people's eyes to the small wonders of nature. Beer Tasting: New Beers of Scandinavia
May 17 @ 7:00 p.m. | NG Members: $75; General Public: $80
The American craft brewing movement has inspired similar developments all over the world, but perhaps nowhere has the rise been as striking as in Scandinavia. Home to five countries, 23 million people and several languages, Scandinavia is producing some of the most interesting and diverse beers on the planet. A frequent visitor to Scandinavia, brewmaster Garrett Oliver will take you on an exciting Nordic beer tour.

Check out the National Geographic Museum's new exhibition: Design for the Other 90%. Of the world’s 6.5 billion people, 5.8 billion, or ninety percent, often lack the means to purchase even the most basic goods. Design for the Other 90% explores a growing movement to design low-cost solutions for those not traditionally served by professional designers. This exhibition demonstrates how design can be a dynamic force in saving and transforming lives, at home and around the world.

Sandra Naing, Mezza Luna Restaurant

After more than thirty years at the IMF working as a senior analyst, Sandra Naing has since been spending her retirement running Mezza Luna Restaurant with her two sons, Michael and Mark Jelencovich. They first opened their doors on 19th Street in late 2005, the same time period as several other restaurants on the block. “We’re very close-knit on this block,” Sandra said. “Luigi’s restaurant will borrow napkins from us sometimes, and we’ll borrow ketchup from Rumors. We’re all very good friends here.”

The highlights of the Mezza Luna menu are affordably priced entrées (ranging from $12 to $17) and a wide selection of both hot and cold Mediterranean tapas. A favorite dish of Sandra’s and many people who frequent Mezza Luna is the “saltimbocca di pollo”, that is, chicken breast in sage butter sauce topped with prosciutto and Fontina cheese.

Sandra also notes that they are now offering delicious $7.95 sandwich specials for lunch, making a relaxing lunch break on their patio on par with the price of takeout. Mezza Luna is also happy to offer free delivery to anyone who works on their block of 19th Street between L and M Streets.

There is always something special happening at Mezza Luna: nightly happy hours and DJs later in the evening keep things lively, and in just a few weeks, they will be broadcasting all World Cup games at the restaurant. Stop in to grab an after-work drink or an affordable lunch at this great spot on bustling 19th Street. Find out more about Mezza Luna »
